Taking a scenic air tour over Grand Junction and the Colorado National Monument is one of the coolest things I have done since living in Grand Junction.

Most of us have probably flown in and out of Grand Junction commercially and have had the chance to see the Grand Valley from the air. But, it was very different capturing the views from a small plane with Colorado Flight Center.

For one thing, the plane is not moving as fast as a jet, which gives you more time to really check out the scenery. Plus, you can look out either side of the plane, the front, and the back.

Climbing Aboard the Aircraft

I boarded the plane with my friends Josh and Tommy for a 7:30 am flight. We each donned headsets, just like you see on TV so we could communicate with each other - and our pilot John. We were also able to listen in on some of the control tower chatter from Grand Junction Regional Airport.

The plane is small - just four seats. There is one seat for the pilot and three for passengers. Tommy, being the heaviest of the three, was directed to take the front seat, with Josh and me in the back. Believe me, there was no back-seat flying.

We Are Monument Bound

Pilot John asked us where we wanted to go, we said, 'the Monument.' He said, 'okay!'

The flight was smooth and totally cool! Seeing the Colorado National Monument from this perspective changed the way I look at this amazing feature. It looks so much bigger than it does when you are experiencing it in a car or bike. You can see for miles.

I have a new appreciation for this incredible natural wonder after taking this scenic air tour. If you ever get the chance, I highly recommend it. Here are a few photos I wanted to share from my excursion.

Scenic Air Tour of Grand Junction

Those of us that live in western Colorado are privileged to enjoy the awesome views on a daily basis of the Grand Mesa, the Bookcliffs, and the Colorado National Monument. But, seeing Grand Junction and the monument from the air gives a very different perspective and a great appreciation for this surrounding beauty. I did a scenic air tour of the monument and wanted to share a little bit of the experience with you.
