[UPDATED] Police Investigating Saturday Night Shooting as a Homicide
The Mesa County Sheriff's Office has changed their investigation into a shooting Saturday night (June 17) from assault to homicide after the victim of that shooting died.
[Update June 20, 3:23 p.m.] The Mesa County Sheriff's Office reports a suspect in the homicide investigation has been arrested.
The suspect, a 27-year-old man, was found this afternoon in the in Coal Canyon area in the desert off of I-70 at the Cameo exit. In addition to the suspect, a female passenger in the car he was driving was brought in for questioning.
Authorities believe there are no other suspects at-large in this case. The names of those involved, including the suspect, are not being released due to the ongoing active investigation. Also, information and records related to the shooting have been sealed by the court.
[Original Story] According to the Mesa County Sheriff's Office, deputies responding to a shooting around 10:30 p.m. at 2940 North View Drive found a man outside the home with a serious gunshot wound.
The victim, a 36-year-old male, was transported to St. Mary's Hospital where he later died. The victim's name is being withheld and information about the case has been sealed by the court pending results of an autopsy, further investigation, and the victim's family are notified.
A woman at the home where the shooting occurred was arrested on outstanding active warrants not related to the shooting.
