Update: As expected, the final six dates of Soundgarden's tour have been canceled in the wake of Chris Cornell's death.

Soundgarden were scheduled to be one of the headliners at this weekend's Rock on the Range festival in Columbus, Ohio, but the death of singer Chris Cornell has obviously altered those plans. Still, the festival has revealed their intent to honor the singer throughout the weekend.

A posting on the Rock on the Range site states, "We are devastated to hear about the sudden passing of Chris Cornell last night. He was a true hero to music, the voice of a generation. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends and the entire music community. The voice of an angel, now watching down on us as we celebrate and honor him all weekend long."

The festival also offered a separate posting on their social media explaining that details surrounding this weekend's performances will be announced as soon as plans are solidified. "As we mourn Chris Cornell’s sudden passing, additional details surrounding Rock on the Range performances will be shared when they become available. We appreciate the patience and understanding of the music community during this difficult time and we will have more to share in the near future" is the exact statement on the matter.

Stay tuned to Loudwire as well as Rock on the Range's sites and social media for updates to the festival lineup.
