Rising Eagle River Forces Trailer Park Evacuation

A flood warning is in effect for the Eagle River near Gypsum.

The National Weather Service office in Grand Junction has issued a Flood Warning for Eagle County and the Eagle River valley in effect until Wednesday evening July 3rd. On Tuesday the Eagle River was reported to be at over 8 feet high. Flood stage is 9 feet. The river is predicted to rise above flood stage over the next couple of days.

The NWS posted this Safety Message..."Caution is urged when walking near waterways. Avoid flooded areas and unstable riverbanks. Expect extra debris to be swept downstream. Anglers should use extreme caution on and near rivers with increased flows, strong currents, cold water temperatures, and increased debris."

Snowmelt flooding of the Eagle River forced the evacuation of the Riverview Mobile Home Park in Gypsum, Colorado. The raging water ripped trees from along the river near the homes. Nearly 40 buildings in the trailer park are at risk of flooding.  Farmland along the Eagle River between Eagle and Dotsero is already under water. Homes bordering the river near River View Road, Porphyry Road, Price Lane, Park View Lane, and Willowstone Place are all at risk.
