Primus Get Bouncy in New Song ‘The Scheme’
Have you ever thrown a bouncy ball down a hallway as hard as you can? Now imagine doing that with a couple handfuls of them and it'd probably sound a lot like Les Claypool's playing on the new Primus jam "The Scheme."
The song is the latest to be released off the eccentric band's forthcoming album, The Desaturating Seven, due Sept. 29 through ATO Records. The sub-three minute track opens up with a spotlight, elastic lick from Claypool, before settling into a rigid groove. The rest of the group plays in lockstep alongside the frenetic bass line with an incredibly catchy, driving guitar melody accenting those steps.
Speaking about the album, which is based off the 1978 children's book The Rainbow Goblins, Claypool told Rolling Stone, “I remember being incredibly impressed with the artwork and the storyline and the content and the message, and I thought, ‘Wow, this would make a great piece of music.' As I’m getting older, I’m realizing I need to start knocking some of these things off my list. So we did the Willy Wonka soundtrack a couple years back, and this was a project I wanted to do.”
