Three men, including 26-year-old Robert Roberts, his friend E.L. Williams, and another unnamed companion, were said to have been walking up the railway from Manitou Springs when Roberts decided to take a quicker route back down as opposed to descending by foot.

It's said that Roberts attempted to slide down the railroad track by sitting on a glass bottle and using it as a makeshift toboggan to get down the mountain.

Unfortunately for Roberts, the bottle is said to have shattered early on, following the commencement of his trip, and caused him to suffer injuries that resulted in great blood loss.

First responders assisted Roberts in an attempt to treat his injuries and save his life, but he unfortunately succumbed to his injuries and passed away at the age of 26.
