Authorities are looking for a suspect involved in a shooting Friday in Palisade.

Unfortunately, shootings in the Grand Valley have become fairly common and it seems they occur more frequently than they used to. With a population of less than 3,000, Palisade is one of the last places you would expect to have a shooting incident. But, the reality is, these things can and do happen anywhere. So far, we don't have many details on this incident in Palisade.

What We Know the Palisade Shooting on Friday, April 2

According to the Palisade Police Department, the shooting occurred on Friday in the 900 block of Iowa Avenue. For those unfamiliar with Palisade streets, that is on the south side of U.S. Highway 6.

When police arrived on the scene, they found a 20-year-old man who appeared to have sustained a gunshot wound to the lower torso. He was transported to the hospital with a non-life-threatening injury. The suspect or suspects had fled the scene prior to the arrival of police.

Investigation Into the Palisade Shooting Continues

The Palisade Police Department and Mesa County Sheriff's Office continue to investigate this incident. Anyone with information about the case is encouraged to contact Sgt. Jesse Stanford of the Palisade PD at 970-464-5601, Extension 6208, or send an email to jstanford@townof palisade.org.

As always, when it comes to reporting local crime and giving tips you have the option of remaining anonymous. If that is the case, you should contact Crime Stoppers of Mesa County at 90-241-STOP. (7867)

This appears to be an isolated incident and should not cause great alarm to Palisade residents, aside from the fact that this sort of incident occurred in their quiet town. Hopefully, the investigation will lead to the arrest of a suspect.
