Remember when Andrew W.K. played Saturday Night Live back in 2002? If you look real close, you’ll see Obituary drummer Don Tardy behind the kit! In this preview of Loudwire Podcast #20, Don recalls how terrified he was right before playing in front of 11 million viewers.

Don Tardy played drums on Andrew W.K.’s breakout Get Wet album after receiving a demo tape from a young Andrew W.K. Enticed that W.K.’s music was nothing like what he’d be playing in Obituary, Tardy signed on to jam with the unknown party rocker. Not long after, Tardy found himself on Saturday Night Live’s stage performing “Party Hard” on an episode where Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson hosted.

Saturday Night Live was one of those moments where I was like, ‘Holy s—t!’” Tardy reminisces. “The nerves, you can’t even describe it, just knowing that you’re on TV, it’s live. If you mess up, you can do another take for the West Coast feed, but you drop a drumstick or your pants fall down, it’s live. I just remember thinking to myself, ‘Just focus, don’t get off time, don’t get off time, don’t get off time!’”

Tardy was actually so focused that he has no recollection of performing whatsoever. “Honestly, I can not remember one second of the performance… so nervous. I can’t remember one second of enjoying one beat,” he stated with a laugh.
