The Nextdoor app is a breeding ground for feisty neighborhood debates — and it doesn't take a break during the holidays.

Lately, I've noticed that my Fort Collins neighbors are getting into the spooky season. While scrolling through the usual 'lost pet' and 'help wanted' posts, I discovered an interesting Halloween-themed debate: how old is too old to trick or treat?

It all started when a 19-year-old Fort Collins resident asked how the community would react to a college student going trick or treating.

The general consensus was positive, with most users noting that they would give candy to anybody, regardless of age — if they put effort into their Halloween costume.

Others couldn't care less about a costume. Many said that, as long as the trick or treater is respectful, they're happy to give out treats, even if someone is sans costume.

Some suggested underage drinking (no comment from me here).

However, not everyone is on board with the idea of college students trick or treating. Instead, some noted that handing out candy is a more age-appropriate Halloween activity.

As a twenty-something myself, I do miss trick or treating, but I don't think I'd participate at my age. Still, as others said, I'm happy to give candy to any respectful person who comes knocking at my door (on Halloween only, please don't ask on other days).

My opinions aside, the important question is: what do you think?
