National Park Mails Garbage to Visitors Who Left it Behind

Most people learn from an early age to clean up after they make a mess, normally this is a lesson that is taught by our parents but not everyone has learned this lesson. There are some locations across the world that are fed up with people leaving trash in their country's national parks (such as Thailand) and they have a new method to stop these dirty individuals.

According to Simple Most, park officials at Khao Yai National Park in central Thailand have decided that anyone who leaves garbage all over their camping site upon exiting will receive their abandoned trash in their mailbox. In a recent instance, there was a group that left a tent full of garbage after an overnight camping trip. After locating a discarded prescription bottle and checking equipment rental forms the park officials knew where the garbage needed to be mailed.

The country of Thailand takes garbage very seriously, seeing as how they have already banned all single-use plastic bags, and littering in a national park is punishable by up to five years in prison and a $16,000 fine. So receiving some garbage in the mail isn't too bad compared to what the punishment could have been for these litter-bugs.

Park officials also had some fun when packing up the garbage to be sent in the mail, it contained a note that said "You have forgotten some of your belongings at the Khao Yai National Park". The people who left the mess are also not allowed to stay overnight in the park ever again.

I love this idea, and if it will get more people to clean up after a night camping in our national parks I think this is something we should try here in the United States.
