My Prediction For Local Music Following Pandemic
With the COVID-19 pandemic affecting the world in a tremendous way, one industry that is especially affected is the music industry, most notably the local music scene. All concerts have been canceled or postponed, and for a working musician, this can be a devastating blow not only to their creative outlet but also their wallet. However, I predict that once this is all over, the scene will be stronger than ever. Here's what I think is going to happen.
Packed Shows
After social distancing as long as I have, there is nothing more that I want to do than catch live music with friends, and I'm sure I'm not alone. I predict that there will be a huge influx of people going to shows and fewer excuses. People who may not even be a fan of the type of music will likely be heading to shows with friends just to socialize, have a beer and be entertained.
New Material
While musicians are stuck at home and unable to play gigs or tours, one can only imagine that they're spending a lot of time practicing their craft and writing new music. I predict that we will see local bands and artists emerge back onto the scene with a plethora of new material for us to ingest.
More Shows
With not only the bigger venues like The Mesa Theater, The Avalon Theatre and Las Colonias Amphitheater being forced to close and cancel shows, but smaller bars across the nation are also losing out on significant amounts of revenue as well. I predict that we'll be seeing a lot more live music in more intimate settings such as bars, restaurants and coffee shops once the 'Stay-at-Home' order is lifted. I wouldn't be surprised if a bar that had things like karaoke once a week will begin offering more and more entertainment once this is all over.
My message to everyone involved in the local music scene is to hang tight and be strong. I know it's not easy, but I really think it will get better and perhaps be a better, stronger scene than ever.
