Sunday is the annual celebration of mothers, motherhood and maternal bonds, we just cal it Mother’s Day. The modern tradition of Mother’s Day began in the 20th century in the United States and has become a worldwide event. Anna Jarvis held the first Mother’s Day in 1908, when she held a memorial for her mother. Jarvis began a campaign to the day a national holiday and was successful in 1914. Most commonly celebrated in March or May the modern Mother’s Day has nothing to do with the many of the celebrations of mothers that have occurred throughout history. So what are you going to do for Mom?

Well, If money is no object then a nice trip to the islands or a expensive piece of jewelry is always nice, but most of us don’t have that kind of expense account. So here are a few ideas that won’t break the bank and make Mom happy.

Sunday go over to Mom’s house and do the whole yard. Cut and trim the grass, clean the gutters, plant a few flowers and trim up the bushes. It won’t cost much and Mom will love that fact she got all the yard work done in one shot. Don’t forget if you have kids take them for a work force, so you can knock it out in no time.

Write Mom a poem or nice letter. Remember when we where kids and Mom just loved that home made card you did in art class. She still loves that stuff, but now you can do a better job. Take a couple of hours this week and hand write out something cool, Mom will love it.

Plan a family BBQ for Sunday and don’t tell Mom. The weather will be nice so fire up the grill and have everyone bring a dish then run and get Mom and bring her back to the party. The fact that you took the time to plan a family gathering for her will be a nice treat.

Don’t forget Mother’s Day is Sunday, so do something for the woman who labored to bring you into the world.
