DENVER (AP) — Background checks for private gun purchases are poised for a final debate in the Colorado Legislature.

Ruling Democrats squashed a GOP attempt yesterday to extend the debate on a bill to require background checks on private and online gun sales. That means the bill could face a final debate in both chambers today before heading to the governor's desk.

The bill was changed slightly yesterday to clarify language about corporations and loaning guns to relatives.

The background check bill is one of the biggest pieces of gun-control legislation still pending. A limit on ammunition magazines has cleared the Legislature.
