While the Mesa County Public Libraries and the 970West Studio are closed to the public, kids can still enjoy story time three days a week via social media.

The 970West Studio offers live story time at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, during the COVID-19 library shutdown. Library staff will be streaming story times via YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram.

PLEASE NOTE: A graphic on various social media sites shows incorrect info. The graphic lists the dates of story time as Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Please disregard this information. Live story times are most definitely 10 a.m. Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

Wednesday's story time will be read in Spanish. Both Tuesday and Thursday's stories will be in English.

At present, all Mesa County Public Library locations are closed to the public. Yesterday, March 16, the MCPL issued the following statement:

As all Mesa County Libraries locations are closed to the public until at least Monday, April 6, we just want to remind our patrons to take a breath and create some small stress-relieving goals that are achievable while practicing social distance.

These story times strike me as a fantastic service. To be honest, it is my hope they will continue with these long after the COVID-19 crisis is history. Perhaps I'm being nostalgic, but this program feels reminiscent of some of the programs I watched growing up. If you have young children, please set aside a few minutes to catch these programs on social media.
