Mosquito Control

In November along with voting for your presidential pick you will also be able to vote to have the Grand River Mosquito Control District cover your area if it's currently not. The cost for the service comes from property taxes and is approximately $12 for every $100,000 in property you own.

The Grand River Mosquito Control District is looking to double the area currently covered which shrank due to the economic recession. The proposed coverage would cover all of Grand Junction as well as other areas that currently have no mosquito control.

One important reason for the coverage expansion is effectiveness as their hard work is easily thwarted by the mosquito's 16 mile range. Meaning the pests can easily find sanctuary outside the current coverage area. Right now the coverage is only 75 square miles.

Not only are they pests but mosquito's carry West Nile Virus which has killed two already in Montrose County this year. They also carry and transmit Heartworms which can be fatal to dogs if they are not on Heartworm prevention plan.
