Mastodon's last studio album was 'The Hunter,' released in 2011. Now it looks like a new album will be on the way sometime next year.

Here's what Mastodon posted on their Facebook page: "Mastodon has been busy jamming every day writing and arranging the next studio album. We have quite a few songs and ideas that are taking some time to nail down what we think will make it to the next full length. There will be no more touring this year, we will hit the studio in November to hopefully finish by the end of year."

Earlier this year, Mastodon drummer Brann Dailor gave Loudwire a preview of the material they have been working on. "It’s all over the place," Dailor says. "There’s some heavy hitters and there’s some -- we just really love to be surprised ourselves. If we’re surprised then we know you’ll be surprised. We just look around for that. Almost like wandering through the woods looking for I don’t know, looking for something. I don’t know what it is but you see it and go, ‘OK cool.’"

"So, we don’t really have too much control over what it sounds like," Dailor continues. "We want to, we try to control it but it governs itself at some point as it starts to take shape, almost as if something else is forcing it, make it. I like that."

No release date has been announced for the upcoming album.
