Parts of Colorado are in for a rough time tonight with possibilities of severe storms, 1" to 2" hail, flooding, and possibly tornadoes.

A weather advisory went out this morning (July 15) advising residents as to the possibility of strong, maybe even severe weather conditions across southern Colorado, especially from the foothills east through the I-25 corridor and plains. According to KOAA News5, communities including Colorado Springs, Pueblo, Canon City, Woodland Park, and Tri-Lakes will all see storms developing tonight.

Check out the photo at top. That was sent to me by Dave Guerrie, a former Grand Junction resident now living on the Front Range. That is what fell on his town, and for that matter, his car. It's almost impossible to overestimate the damage a hailstorm such as this can cause. Do you recall the severe hailstorm that hit Colorado Springs less than two years ago?

According to the National Weather Service, some Colorado communities, Colorado Springs for one, can expect stormy weather through the remainder of the week. Chances of precipitation vary from 30% to 50% through Sunday night.

The National Weather Service issues this Hazardous Weather Outlook warning for portions of central, east central, south central and southeast Colorado.

Scattered strong to severe storms are expected over the I-25
corridor and adjacent plains this afternoon and evening. Golf ball size hail, wind gusts in excess of 60 mph, locally heavy rainfall, and lightning will be the primary threats, although an isolated tornado cannot be completely ruled out. There is also the potential for flash flooding over the urban areas due to the heavy rainfall.

Meanwhile in Western Colorado, the National Weather Service predicts sunny skies, hot temperatures, and light winds for most of the week. Thursday and Friday both have a 20% to 30% chance of showers.

I have several friends living in the Colorado Springs area, and I'm calling them right now. In most cases they have a garage where at least their cars will be protected. Stay safe, Colorado.
