Listen to Prophets of Rage’s New Single, ‘Heart Afire’
Earlier this week, Prophets of Rage bassist Tim Commerford promised the band would release a new single today. He's true to his word: "Heart Afire" is now available.
On the track, B-Real of Cypress Hill takes the lead vocals, with Public Enemy frontman Chuck D coming on toward the end. The music, provided by three-fourths of Rage Against the Machine, switches from heavy rock in the chorus to hip-hop in the verse.
You can check it out below.
As Commerford had said, the group's ability to move between genres has given Prophets a lot of creative freedom this time around.
“We wanna make a rock record? We make a rock record," he said. "We wanna make a hip-hop record? We can make a hip-hop record. There's so many things that we can do, and so I'm excited about just the future of making new music and what that means. And, like I said, we just finished our new musical outlook, and it's a beautiful one."
He noted that “it's a different direction, it's not the same, and I love that," adding that he grew up "listening to bands that made records, and you were waiting at the record store to hear what it might sound like. … And so that's the way I feel like we're doing it right now. We're growing and we're creating and we're going in a new territory – and I feel really good about it."
