Teachers in the state of Colorado are needed more than ever before. Numbers are dwindling, putting kids and learning at a disadvantage.

KKCO reports that the number of teachers in the state is down. The Colorado Department of Higher Education, numbers are 23 percent lower compared with five years ago.

Teachers who are baby boomers are beginning to retire, and it is beginning to create gaps finding teachers in the Front Range, and in Rural Communities. The openings are there. The teachers are not.

Reasoning behind the shortage. Money. The average salary for a teacher in Colorado is a bit over $32,000  a year. However, in Wyoming, the salary for teachers is $43,000 plus a signing bonus, this is according to the National Education Association.

When you look at the salary for a teacher vs the cost of getting the degree, it really is not a cost effective move for most.
