Lemmy Kilmister’s Final Solo Studio Performance on Chris Declercq’s ‘We Are the Ones’ Released
It's been nearly two years since the death of iconic Motorhead frontman Lemmy Kilmister, but as the calendar hits December we can reflect on his memory with a new song. Prior to his death, Kilmister hit the studio with guitarist Chris DeClercq to record a track called "We Are the Ones" that can be heard in the player above.
Kilmister handles bass and vocals on the song with his gruff voice powering the straight-ahead heavy rocker. DeClercq's guitar work is also featured and the musician co-wrote the song with Lemmy. Rounding out the recording is omnipresent drummer Josh Freese. The single was recorded and co-produced by Cameron Webb in 2014 at Paramount Studios, with John Lousteau mixing the track at Dave Grohl's Studio 606 in Los Angeles.
The track is being billed as Lemmy's final solo recording, and it's the kind of meat-and-potatoes rocker we've come to expect from the musician, not straying too far outside of the box and fitting perfectly within his catalog. There will also reportedly be a behind-the-scenes promotional video directed by Martin Guigui surfacing soon in conjunction with the single.
DeClercq, an industry vet who has played with a number of the greats, is currently working on his first solo album with guest turns from members of Iron Maiden and Alice Cooper's bands, as well as a number of well-known guest artists. Lemmy had initially planned only to sing on the track, but after hearing the first takes of the song, he volunteered his bass playing as well.
"We Are the Ones" is currently available via Amazon, Spotify and other digital and streaming outlets. Stay tuned for news on DeClercq's upcoming release.
