The entertainment world has lost another giant, as comedienne Joan Rivers has passed away at the age of 81. Rivers was undergoing surgery on her vocal cords at a clinic in New York City on Aug. 28 when she stopped breathing. She was put into a medically induced coma and was briefly on life support before her death on Thursday (Sept. 4).

Melissa Rivers said in a statement, "My mother's greatest joy in life was to make people laugh. Although that is difficult to do right now, I know her final wish would be that we return to laughing soon."

Rivers first came to prominence, appearing as a guest on a 1965 episode of 'The Tonight Show.' She would later sub as a guest host for Johnny Carson and built her comedic career through the '70s and '80s. In her later years, she became as well known for her red carpet fashion commentary, including hosting the E! show 'Fashion Police,' featuring Ozzy Osbourne's daughter Kelly as a panelist.

Her humor was far reaching and she affected many in her life. Look no further than the rock scene, where Ozzy Osbourne, Rob Zombie, Motorhead and others have weighed in with their commentary on the death of Joan Rivers. See some of the tweets below:
