Recently, there has been a lot of drama regarding grocery stores here in Colorado, with the Kroger and Albertsons merger being the contributing factor.

From the start, it was clear there was going to be a lot of moving parts with it. For one, it almost immediately got hit with a lawsuit from Colorado’s Attorney General all the way back in February.

They then tried to make it work by selling off 89 Safeways to C&S Wholesale Grocers, who own Piggly Wiggly.

The merger has since been put on ice until at least September 30th, when the ruling will be made on the lawsuit.

However, it looks like a different grocery store chain and Fort Collins favorite could be facing some difficulties.

Located right on the cusp of Old Town on 425 S. College Avenue in Fort Collins lies Lucky’s Market, which has become a favorite recently.

However, the land that the grocery store sits on recently was sold by McWhinney Real Estate Services Inc. under the advisement of Cushman & Wakefield PLC, which is a commercial real estate company.

At the moment, it has not been made clear who the property was sold to.

The sale was for $7.3 million, and it would seem they are targeting the building that houses Lucky’s Market.

According to BizWest, the store has been around in Fort Collins since 1966, but went through major renovations in 2018 when Lucky’s Market took over the property.

Is Lucky’s Market in Fort Collins Closing?

It’s no secret that the Lucky’s Market brand has experienced quite a bit of turbulence over the past few years.

They went from collaborating with Kroger’s in 2016 to filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2020 just weeks before they were set to close over a dozen different stores across the United States.

Mind you, these closures and bankruptcy petitions came before the pandemic, meaning they were on a downward trajectory before the lockdown.

However, even though the sale of the property is not a great sign, it is not entirely clear whether or not Lucky’s Market in Fort Collins is going to stick around or close up shop.
