Colorado Home to the Highest Elevation Golf Course in America
Colorado is a state that has many different sights and activities to see. Of course, we’ve got incredible hiking and skiing.
As it would turn out, though, we’re an absolutely elite state for one particular sport; golf.
Truly, it doesn’t matter which type you like to play. One study found that Colorado has three cities, Arvada, Denver, and Lakewood, that are all in the Top 10 Best Cities for Disc Golf.
On the other hand, if you like golfing the old fashion way, Colorado already has you more than covered.
In fact, it was rated as the 7th best state for golfers in the entire country, with great weather and courses throughout the state.
One factor that was mentioned was the uniqueness of golfing at such high elevations throughout the state, fundamentally changing how the game is played.
As it would turn out, though, if you want to check out a particularly high tee box, Colorado has you covered.
Copper Creek Golf Course is the Highest Elevation Course in the United States
If you want to swing a golf club at the highest elevation in the United States, you’ll have to head over to Copper Creek Golf Course in Frisco, Colorado. It’s actually a part of the Copper Mountain resort as well.
While the entire course has a high elevation in general, it’s most famous for the iconic Hole 14.
Hole 14 sits at the highest elevation out of any golf tee in the entire country, at a whopping 9,863 feet.
The course itself was created by the legendary course designers Perry and Pete Dye, and is a full 18 hole course that is 6,057 yards.
Other tees in Colorado come close to Hole 14, with Telluride Golf Club in Telluride at 9,417 feet and Mt. Massive Golf Course in Leadville sitting at 9,680 feet.
What is the Highest Golf Hole in the World?
While 9,863 feet is absolutely nothing to sniff at, the world’s highest elevation golf course blows it out of the water.
If you want to find it, you’ll have to go all the way to the Himalayas in India. There, you’ll find a place called Yak Course, which by all accounts appears to be the highest course in the world.
According to Guinness World Records, Yak Course sits at a staggering 13,025 feet above sea level. One could only imagine that the thin air there could make an average Joe feel like John Daly.
