For many in Grand Junction, Golden Corral at 1100 Independent Avenue was a staple of their diet. For those not familiar with the restaurant chain, they offered "... a legendary, endless buffet at breakfast, lunch, and dinner." Golden Corral Closes In Grand Junction, Colorado

Barely two weeks ago, on Sunday, January 21, 2024, Western Colorado residents enjoyed breakfast and lunch at the Grand Junction Golden Corral. For those customers, and for the employees as well, it was just another day.

Later that same day, a sign went up on the front door, the doors were locked, and customers and employees alike were informed the restaurant was closing for good.

Golden Corral Must Have Been a Great Place To Work

If you visited the Grand Junction location with any frequency, you probably noticed something. Many of the employees, perhaps even most, had worked there for years, if not decades. When it comes to the staff, the place was an oil painting. The gentleman working the grill must have been employed there at least 15 years. A couple of the servers had been there from almost day one. The food service industry is notorious for having high turnover. For a company to retain employees for so long speaks volumes.

For many, the standout on the buffet lineup at the Grand Junction Golden Corral was the fried chicken. The salad bar also received tremendous praise. Let's not even get started on the dessert bar.

Do find yourself hopping in the car and driving 60 or 70 miles just to visit your favorite hole-in-the-wall restaurant or cafe. People in Western Colorado do this all the time. They gather the fam-damily and pile in the SUV to drive up to Mesa to visit the Wagon Wheel. Maybe you pile in the car and drive from Grand Junction to Meeker simply to visit Clark's Burgers.
