It's scary to think it's been 50 years since "The Exorcist" hit theaters in Colorado. When was the last time you watched the classic film?

Would you believe there are many adults who have yet to see the original? Some have waited until the recent release of the 50th Anniversary Edition of the film to finally dig up the courage to see it. Based on information gathered from social media, it appears we in Colorado haven't given "The Exorcist" its proper due.

The Exorcist Came Out In 1973

"The Exorcist" first hit theaters on December 26, 1973. Merry Christmas! It seems the film was cursed from the get-go. According to Wikipedia, production of the film took twice as long as anticipated, and the cost soared to almost three times the original budget.

The Movie Performed Well

By the end of the original theatrical run, The Exorcist took in an estimated $193 million at the box office. It went on to become the first horror film to be nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture. It would go on to win Academy Awards for Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Sound.

What About The New Movie?

Okay, so the original film has had half a century to make its mark. What about the new film, "The Exorcist: Believer"?

Judging by the reviews, you may be wise to rewatch the original 1973 film. The 2023 release "The Exorcist: Believer" arrived with a resounding thud and a 22% approval rating on the Tomatometer.

I Have To Make a Confession

I was three years old when The Exorcist hit theaters. Until three weeks ago, I had never seen the movie. Three weeks ago (October 4, 2023) I finally got around to watching the movie.

The 50th-anniversary presentation was showing at the West Wind El Rancho Drive-In movie theater in Reno, Nevada. I was in Reno on business (yeah, right) and had the evening free. Armed with an extra seven bucks a box of Junior Mints, I finally got around to seeing this classic. Spoiler Alert: It's not that scary.

It appears I'm not alone. The question was posted on social media "When was the last time you saw the original 1973 'The Exorcist'?" Looking at the replies, it appears many have yet to see it. For some who saw it back in 1973, they were so scared they had to flee the theater, and to this day, have yet to see how the movie ends.

Frightening Proof We In Colorado Don't Watch 'The Exorcist' Enough

Can you believe it has been 50 years since the original "The Exorcist" hit theaters in the United States? The film was recently re-released for a 50th anniversary run in theaters. Not only that, but there's now the remake.
