Grand Lake is a great place to spend the summer because it is so close to several nearby lakes that we call the "Colorado Great Lakes." These include Grand Lake, Lake Granby, Monarch Lake, Willow Creek Reservoir, and Meadow Creek Reservoir.

Alpine environments are generally considered to be those above 5000 feet in North America. By this standard, Colorado is loaded with bodies of water considered 'Alpine Lakes.' Colorado's largest glacial lake is located at 9,603 feet, located next door to Colorado's tallest 14er. We're talking about Twin Lakes, which sit in the shadow of Mount Elbert in Lake County.
