How many beer cans would it take to build yourself a castle? Would the castle be able to stand up for long if it was only built from beer cans? Not likely, but what about a castle built from beer cans, hubcaps, and other assorted scrap metal?

People who don't live in Colorado have never heard of Cano's Castle, but residents of the Centennial State go out of their way to stop in the small town of Antonito for a closer look at this homemade structure.

Is Colorado Home To A Castle Made of Beer Cans?

Cano's Castle is made from all kinds of things, but legend says Vietnam veteran Donald Espinoza used more than one million aluminum beer cans (so far) to build it. Out There Colorado says Espinoza's effort began in 1980 as an attempt to build a shrine to show god how thankful he was to have survived the war.

Antonito, Colorado, is a charter town in Conejos County. Colorado 285 will get you within a few blocks of Cano's Castle on your way through town. While visitors can not enter the structure, people are welcome to look at it and take photos from the road. The castle is on State Street and 10th Avenue in Antonito.
