Denver’s Airport is Busier Than 5 of These International Airports
Thousands of people travel into or out of Denver International Airport every day of the year. If you have ever seen the security checkpoint at Denver's airport, you know how hectic traveling out of Colorado can be.

It might surprise you to know that Denver International Airport is the largest airport in the United States and the second-largest airport in the world, behind King Fahd International Airport in Saudi Arabia. Denver International Airport covers over 52 square miles of land and can adequately handle hundreds upon hundreds of flights in and out of the airport every day.
Even though Denver International Airport is one of the largest in the world, you may think that other airports like JFK in New York City and Los Angeles International Airport in California are much busier than Denver. The reality is that there are only two airports that see more passengers in the terminals in the United States.
Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson Airport is the busiest airport in the world, and Dallas Fort Worth International Airport is the third busiest. Denver International Airport sees more travelers annually than the following international airports.
Istanbul Airport - Istanbul, Turkey
The Istanbul Airport is large, lavish, and a sensory overload. With an airport that seems much larger than Denver International Airport, the reality is that Istanbul sees only 76 million travelers annually.
LAX - Los Angeles, California
Arguably the biggest hub for travelers on the West Coast is the Los Angeles International Airport. This West Coast airport has approximately 75 million travelers flying in and out of the airport every year.
O'Hare International Airport - Chicago, Illinois
This midwest monster of an airport is also a hub for international travelers and those traveling within the United States. Chicago's O'Hare International Airport sees over 73 million travelers every year.
Indira Gandhi International Airport - Palam, Delhi
The population in the country of India is nearly four and a half times the size of the United States of America. At an approximate population of 1.417 billion people, you would think that India would have one of the largest airports and the number of travelers worldwide. While India's Indira Gandhi International Airport is in the top 10 for busiest airports in the world at 72 million passengers per year, Denver International Airport sees more than 5 million more passengers in a calendar year.
Charles de Gaulle Airport - Paris, France
Paris, France is a bucket list location for pretty much any traveler anywhere in the world and the Charles de Gaulle Airport is a major international hub in Europe. France's airport feels like a maze and I have seen many travelers complain about how discombobulated the Charles de Gaulle Airport layout seems. Still, the airport in the City of Love doesn't see as many travelers as the Denver International Airport with only 67 million people flying in or out of Paris every year.
How many travelers go through Denver International Airport?
Just how many travelers does the Colorado airport accommodate every year? A lot. If you break it down to a single calendar year with 365 days, Denver International Airport has approximately 213,000 travelers per day. Ranking as the sixth busiest airport in the world, Denver International Airport has approximately 77.8 million travelers in and out of the airport every single year and the number of travelers through the terminals at DEN increases year over year.
So the next time you are at the Denver International Airport, take a moment and look around. You are in the largest airport in the United States and the second-largest airport in the entire world. Not only that, but you are also a part of one of the busiest airports in the world right then and there.
