Dogs have always been praised for being a loyal companion to humans. It was my 3rd dog that showed me exactly what that looks like. He always has me in his sights. If I leave a room he does too. It's really obvious when I'm lying down. He sits right next to me and is on guard if anyone walks into the room, including my kids. I've wondered what he would do if I was injured and couldn't get up.

The relationship between humans and dogs goes back more than 30,000 years according to Boehringer-Ingelheim based on archaeological evidence showing that they were the first animals to be domesticated.

A tragic story out of Southwest Colorado has brought to light exactly how loyal a dog can be. A man and his dog went missing 10 weeks ago well hiking Blackhead Peak, in the San Juan Mountains. Recently a hunter found the man's body and his loyal companion, a small Jack Russell terrier was still alive and by his side.

The 71-year-old man died of hypothermia. The Jack Russell terrier named Finney had lost a lot of weight and had a cut on her nose, but despite the cold weather, she was ok.

According to CBS News, Delinda VanneBrightyn of Taos Search and Rescue said the dog likely survived "by hunting small animals such as mice while also managing to avoid predators like mountain lions, coyotes, and bears".

Finney was returned to the man's family. What an adventure she could tell. Maybe this is a movie in the making that will surely make us all ball our eyes out.

Good dog, Finney.
