While many in Colorado have probably at least heard of Burning Man, I think you'd have a hard time finding many who know about Apogaea. Usually happening 200 miles south of Denver in June, the event draws thousands and thousands of people.

Where Does Apogaea Take Place in Colorado Each June

While Apogaea has had a few different locations, since 2016 it has been happening outside of Trinidad. in Las Animas County, which is about 1,000 miles from the main "Burning Man' in the Black Desert of Nevada. Apogaea is one of dozens of "regional burns" that happen across the world, including Australia and Japan, that all have their own name.

What is Colorado's Apogaea Event All About?

While smaller (@10,000 people vs. 75,000 people,) Apogaea ties directly with Burning Man and its 10 core principles such as "Gifting," Radical Inclusion," "Radical Self-Expression," and "Leaving No Trace." Like Burning Man, Apogaea features several "camps" where art, music, and giving are taking place.

I have a friend who attended Apogaea for the first time, in June of 2026. He told me that the camps have their own names and themes, including a Kids Zone camp. He told me about this performance art thing, "Slime Court," where even kids participate: a two-headed judge was handing down verdicts on all sorts of things, including how there should be more cookies.

Lots of People, No Vendors at Apogaea in Colorado

With one of the 10 core principles being "Gifting," you won't find any vendors selling goods/products; though, there was a $6/bag ice vendor at the 2026 five-day event.

One of the main things about Apogaea is "art;" you'll find all sorts of art pieces on display (not for sale) or being made on-site. People driving out to the event in their 'Burner Car," is popular.
