Is Sam's Club or Costco Better in Colorado?

There are many popular stores that people enjoy shopping at daily, weekly, and monthly. There are certain stores that families flock to every weekend to load up on groceries, food, tools, and other things they may need. Two of the most popular stores in Northern Colorado are Sam's Club and Costco. These stores are very similar, require memberships, and sell bulk items. They are ideal for bigger families or those that like to stock up on certain items. When it comes to Costco vs Sam's Club in Northern Colorado, which is better and which store should you choose to shop at?

Costco Carts Are the Best

Typically, when shopping at stores like Costco and Sam's Club, you are going to need a shopping cart, as rarely do you walk out with only one item. There are certain places that are known to have bad carts, and others always have good carts. Costco may have the best shopping carts of any store around. They can fit two kids, have plenty of room for products, and the wheels nearly always work.

Sam's Club Crowds Are Better Than Costco

One of the biggest complaints about shopping at Costco is how crowded it is. The parking lot is dangerous, the lines are long, and people are in your personal space. At Sam's Club, there is typically plenty of room to maneuver, the parking is better and safer, and the lines are shorter. This makes for a better shopping experience.

Who Has the Better Food Court?

The Costco food court is legendary. Everyone knows about their delicious pizza, their hot dog and drink combo, and their ice cream cups. They have much more than that with the chicken bake, chicken tenders, and salads. Sam's Club also offers a hot dog and drink combo and pizza, but they offer meat lovers, which Costco does not, and you can get an Icee. Both are good, but Costco gets the nod as it offers a few more options.

Location, Location, Location

Depending on where you live, may dictate which store you prefer. If you live near Longmont or Timnath, Costco is your better option. If you are in Fort Collins or Loveland, then Sam's Club is likely closer and a better option for you. This saves gas when not having to drive as far and is nice when you need to run in and get a few items that you have run out of, without having to go out of your way.

Shopping at Costco and Sam's Club

When it comes to actual items, who has the advantage? Surprisingly, both stores carry many of the same items. The same brands, the prices are similar, and the same bulk products. Costco perhaps has a few more options when it comes to certain things like clothing and toys, but Sam's Club offers more options when it comes to desserts and the bakery. Depending on what you need and prefer, may depend on which store you need to go to. There are certain items and brands you can only find at each store, but overall they aren't much different.

Membership Costs

Costco memberships are a little more expensive than Sam's Club. Depending on what kind of membership you have will dictate how much you pay, but they range from $65 to $130 per year. Sam's Club is similar in that it depends on which membership you get, but they range from $55 to $120 per year. In an economy where every dollar matters, Sam's Club gets the nod.

Both stores have pros and cons, with both having more pros. It really comes down to what you are in need of, what your preferences are, and perhaps which is located closer to you. You can't go wrong with either one. Perhaps the best thing to do, if you can afford it, is to get a membership at both for a year, and see which you use more and prefer more.
