A Local’s Take on the Best Parks in Northern Colorado

As the mother of an 8-year-old, third-grade, never takes a breath child, I can relate to any parent desperate for an activity that will somewhat tire their kid out. Something that will hopefully guarantee at least eight hours of deep sleep. Luckily, Northern Colorado has some amazing parks where kids can run, climb, and burn off all that endless energy.

Here are a few favorite park gems in Fort Collins, Greeley, and Loveland that parents swear by. Let’s start with some of the best parks in Fort Collins, Colorado.

  • Spring Canyon Park- While you're there be sure to check out the splash pad.
  • Twin Silos Park- Be sure to check out the zipline and HUGE tube slide for the adventurous.
  • Fort Collins City Park- A Northern Colorado classic complete with an actual cannon that kids can climb on.
  • Fossil Creek Park- Also known as 'Dinosaur Park', if you have a dino enthusiast at home, this is a must visit park.

Now here are the top parks (according to our family) in Greeley, Colorado

  • Island Grove Regional Park- Also known as the park right next to the Greeley Stampede!
  • Woodbriar Park Have a volleyball enthusiast in the family? Then this park is a must visit.
  • Glenmere Park This park is perfect for kids who love to explore. Complete with a ton of trees and small body of water, who needs all the bells and whistles when this natural area is so gorgeous.
  • Sanborn Park- You have to check out the cowboy frog. You just have to.

And last but not least… here are the top parks in Loveland, Colorado

  • Mehaffey Park- Also known as the biggest park my eight year old has ever seen! They also have a huge skatepark.
  • North Lake Park- Does your kiddo love trains? This park offers a miniature sized steam engine kids can actually ride on!
  • Willow Bend Park- This stunning natural area is perfect for running and exploring!
  • Benson Sculpture Garden- Not only is this a located in a beautiful area, but the art work will be a treat for everyone in the family.
