Black Bear Recently Seen Emerging from Manhole in Colorado Neighborhood
The incident took place on Thursday, July 10, 2025, in the Ivywild Neighborhood in Colorado Springs.
This particular neighborhood is largely residential and is home to the Ivywild School in the southeast area of the city.

Here we see the bear poking its head out of the manhole, which was removed by the Department of Colorado Parks and Wildlife.
Once CPW removed the manhole cover, the bear slowly emerged from the storm drain.
Finally, the bear emerged fully from the storm drain and proceeded to climb a tree. CPW did not make any further attempts to assist or make contact with the animal once it was free.
Bear sightings are fairly common in Colorado, but luckily, attacks are fairly rare in residential areas.
Prior to this sighting, a group of concertgoers waiting in line to attend a show at Red Rocks Amphitheatre experienced a similar situation as a black bear proceeded to mosey along a nearby sidewalk.
Luckily, no contact was made between the bear and the humans in this instance either.
