Iran published an article that claimed that 'rural whites' would vote for Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad over President Obama. The 'statistics'  they published claimed '77% of rural Caucasian voters' would rather hangout with the president of Iran than President Obama. Iranian news pulled the 'story' from the satirical news site The Onion.

The Onion article that Fars News lifted and published as fact was written to have looked like Gallup poll results. The Onion claimed that a majority(77%) of voters would vote for Ahmadinejad over Obama. It also quoted a 'West Virginia man as, "liking him [Ahmadinejad} better [than Obama]" and that he would rather see a baseball game or go drinking with the Iranian leader.

Iranian President Ahmadinejad has repeatedly denied the Holocaust and keeps claiming Iran's nuclear capablilities are for peaceful purposes. Most recently Ahmadinejad was parodied on Saturday Night Live Thursday Weekend Update after once again going crazy in front of U.N. delegates.

Fars News then apologized for mistakenly printing the satirical item as actual news from a real western news source. In the apology the Iranians claimed that hinted that they believe the satire might be true adding, “Although it does not justify our mistake.” They then went on to essentially also copy their apology for publishing The Onion from previous media retractions after republishing The Onion.
