Mesa County Sheriff’s Office is reporting that part of eastbound I-70 was closed today (Tuesday) between Horizon Drive and the Clifton exit, but has since re-opened.

According to a report from KREX-TV, this morning’s accident occurred on eastbound lanes around mile markers 37 to 38 just west of the Clifton exit. The accident reportedly involved a semi truck.

KREX reports that the Colorado State Patrol confirmed one person has died and medical personnel were treating others. No word yet on the number of other victims involved in the accident, but KREX says reports were came in on people pinned inside a vehicle in need of extrication.

Heather Gierhart Benjamin of the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office reported on Facebook at approximately 9:30 a.m. that I-70 has re-opened to traffic.
