Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong Opening Up Guitar Shop in Oakland
Armstrong and his business partner Bill Schneider will hold the grand opening of Broken Guitars on April 3. The business, located at 423 40th Street in Oakland, is just the latest music-themed venture for the pair. Schneider previously ran an instrument shop named Univibe and the pair helped in moving 1-2-3-4 Go! Records to its current location in 2012 while adding a back room for all-ages live concerts.
According to the East Bay Express, the pair considered opening Broken Guitars in its current location in 2012, but were beaten to the punch by another business that leased the space. When that business decided to relocate, Schneider was approached about taking over the lease.
Schneider, who also creates custom amps, stated that he's set to open the store with about 75 guitars on the wall, most of which come from his and Armstrong's personal collections. The store will also sell amps and offer full-service repairs for instruments and amplifiers.
"We want to be a shop for musicians," says Schneider. "The focus is used American guitars: Gretsch, Fender and not necessarily just vintage ones."
