Grand Valley Veterans Day Events
Show support for veterans this weekend.
My father served in the Navy and then reenlisted for special service during the Viet Nam War. He was a firefighter by trade and spent 4 years working alongside and training South Viet Nam soldiers to fight fires. Obviously a common occurrence in and around Saigon. Fighting fire is dangerous work but even more so in a war zone. Veteran's Day is always special to me. Take time this weekend to show your support for those that have sacrificed so much for our country. Here are a couple local events you can attend.
The Veterans Memorial Cemetery of Western Colorado and the Western Slope Vietnam War Memorial Park will present their annual Veterans Day Ceremony. On Saturday, November 10th at 11:11 AM. The time is significant in that WW-I ended "at the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month" of 1918. That's right, 2018 marks the 100th anniversary of the end of the war. The Park is located at the Colorado Welcome Center in Fruita, just off I-70.
Saturday's ceremony will feature performances by Sherry Verdiect, Blue Star Mother and Patriot Guard Rider, local band ECHO; the Walker children will lead in the Pledge of Allegiance, and Sean Taylor & the Glenfinnan Highlanders. The keynote speaker is CSM Bill Woods, Command Senior Enlisted Leader to the Adjutant General of Colorado. The ceremony is open to the public. Parking is available. Please bring their own seating. This event is expected to last about an hour.
95 Rock, along with our sister stations Mix104.3, KOOL 107.9, and 99.9 KEKB will be rolling through the Veterans Day Parade on Main Street in downtown Grand Junction on Saturday. The parade starts at 2 PM and runs between 8th to 3rd street.
