Grand Mesa Road Construction to Create Delays and Closures
It's road construction season in Colorado and even National Forests, including Grand Mesa, aren't immune to the annual work that many think should be its own season.
So, while you can get away from the hustle-bustle and heat of the Grand Valley, you won't be able to escape the cone zone.
The road work is focusing on two roads and high use parking areas needing improvement.
Flowing Park Road (NFSR 109) will have equipment performing a crushing operation to improve the road bed. The current work is creating delays.
Beginning July 31, Flowing Park Road will be closed Monday through Thursday from 7:a.m. until 5:30 p.m. The project is expected to be completed by the end of August.
Campers in the area are advised that camping will not be available after July 30.
The other project will provide improvements to Highway 65. One of those projects is the construction of a deceleration and turn lane near the County Line Trailhead. The County Line parking lot will be closed through early September.
Other work will reroute the Skyway Trailhead entrance. That project will begin on July 24 and is expected to be completed by mid-September.
While Highway 65 will remain open, travelers should expect delays during construction, especially in the County Line area.
The Forest Service says travelers should plan for these delays and be patient keeping in mind the work will greatly improve these popular areas on Grand Mesa.
