Grand Junction's annual Spring Cleanup has been put to bed for another year. Here's a breakdown of the numbers for 2021.

It was another successful year for the program. How many workers were involved? How much material did they collect? Check out the awesome video below.

The numbers for the 2021 program are impressive. That was a bunch of junk hauled off in a surprisingly short amount of time.

How long did it take?

Trash was collected across the city over a total of nine days. In my opinion, that's an impossibly short amount of time to accomplish such a task. I have no idea how they managed it so quickly.

How many people did it take?

The 2021 program consisted of 10 crews. Put those crews together, and you have a total of 53 workers.

How much trash did they haul away?

A total of 440 containers of trash were collected.  When it was all said and done, a total of 2,220 tons of trash were removed from the streets of Grand Junction.

How many man-hours of work were involved?

In the end, it took employees a total of 4,770 hours to complete the task.

This program strikes me as the very model of efficiency. Think about it - 2,220 tons of trash collected by 53 people in just 9 days. I've spent the last year-and-a-half trying to clean out my garage. I'm not even close to done.

We're not quite done yet

The workers have done their part. Now, the baton is being passed back to us. Drive down 4th Street in Grand Junction and you'll see where one house still has an entire living room set dumped out in the street. There are a number of items, mattresses for example, the city could not pick up. Drive down Independent Avenue in G.J. and you'll spot a stack of mattresses still cluttering the street. The owners of those mattresses need to pick them up and haul them to the landfill.

Thanks, Grand Junction, for another successful year with the Spring Cleanup program. Hopefully by 2022 I'll have the junk in my garage collected and I'll be ready to participate.
