Grand Junction's newest grocery store has just opened up on North Avenue.

Filling the void left when City Market closed its North Avenue location six years ago, Save -a-Lot opened the doors on Thursday (Feb. 25).

The new Save-a-Lot store is located in the Teller Arms Shopping Center next door to the old Hobby Lobby location.

The store is small in comparison to other grocery stores in town, but offers essentially the same array of products from fruits and vegetables, to meat, dairy, canned goods, frozen foods, and snacks.

There are some differences you will notice from most other grocery stores. Most of the offerings are not the name brands you will find other places although there are are a few familiar names like Folgers and Nesquik. Down most aisles you will find those items are not individually stocked but remain in boxes on the shelves, but easily accessible.

One of the features of a Save-a-Lot store is that you bag your own groceries. You can bring your own bags, or purchase reusable heavy plastic bags for 10 cents each.

There's also only about 4 check-out lines, so shopping during a busy time could take a little time.

This won't be a store that satisfies everyone - relatively small selection, limited name-brands, bag-your-own, etc., but for many grocery shoppers looking to pinch pennies and save a lot, it will be just what the doctor ordered.
