The evacuation area due to a wildfire on the Redlands has now been extended to include Little Park Road.

UPDATE: As of 11:47 p.m. the Grand Junction Fire Department and Emergency Response report the fire is 100% contained. Additional information to follow.

UPDATE: The American Red Cross is assisting evacuees at Dual Immersion Academy. That evacuation center will remain open as long as evacuations are in place. Also, Mesa County Animal Services is working to provide shelter to pets.

There are now information lines for residents affected by the fire. Those numbers are 970-549-5480, 549-5481, 549-5482, and 549-5483.

The fire which was reported around 8 p.m. today grew quickly due to dry conditions and wind. Initially, authorities were asking residents in the area south of Monument Road and to D Road along Rosevale Road to evacuate to the old Safeway store in the Monument Village Shopping Center.

Now, with the evacuation area expanded, residents in the affected areas are asked to evacuate to Dual Immersion Academy 552 West Main Street.

According to reports several structures, power and other utility lines have been burned in the fire. Numerous agencies, including the Grand Junction Fire Department, Clifton Fire Department, and Lower Valley Fire Department are fighting the fire which in addition to being driven by thee wind is burning in areas difficult for firefighters to reach.
