Grand Junction Reacts to Rock Hall Snubs
In case you missed the big news yesterday, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has announced its 2020 inductees. Inductees this year include The Doobie Brothers, T-Rex, Whitney Houston, Depeche Mode, Notorious B.I.G. and Nine Inch Nails. However, some very worthy bans were snubbed this year, including Judas Priest, Motorhead and Soundgarden. I posted a Facebook question and took calls on the matter yesterday, and some Grand Junction residents were not pleased with the news.
One listener asked, "did you just say Whitney Houston got into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? And Motorhead didn't? You just ruined my week. Another listener said that he thought it was a joke article at first, and remarked that he couldn't believe it was real. Finally, a rather fired up listener lamented that Whitney Houston's music isn't rock and roll and that Judas Priest, Soundgarden, and Motorhead should have already been inducted before now.
Listeners on Facebook had similar reactions. Heather said that she's not surprised by the news and that the Rock Hall has been a joke for almost 20 years. She went on to say that when Madonna was inducted, "it was all downhill from there."
Loyal listener and Facebook fan Dio said, "It's a bunch of crap! The fact that not only Judas Priest but Thin Lizzy and Todd Rundgren were left out is a total shame and it shows what a joke the Hall of Fame really is." And this same sentiment was shared on-air and online.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has basically angered rock fans once a year for a long time. I've heard that Foreigner will never get in because of inner tensions between the band and the Rock Hall, and if you look at the list of incredibly influential and important rock artists that have been waiting decades to get in, it will make your stomach churn.
