Grand Junction’s Police + Firefighters Battle for Blood
Grand Junction area police and fire departments are competing for blood in their first-ever lifesaving battle to see which department can get the most blood donations and they'd like you to help.
For two weeks beginning March 16, police and fire departments will be hosting blood drives around the Grand Valley. 'Heroes Behind the Badges Blood Drive' is designed to help the St. Mary's Regional Blood Center restock depleted blood supplies.
Trooper Dan Chermok, Public Information Officer for the Colorado State Patrol says, they see an increase in accidents as people are become more active as the weather gets warmer. Victims of those accidents put a strain on the blood bank supply, so now is an excellent time to donate.
Donations can be made anytime at St. Mary's Regional Blood Donor Center, (make sure you designate your donation to either the police or fire department). You can also donate at one of 10 scheduled Bloodmobile stops between March 16 and 28 at area police and fire stations.
The winning department will get a trophy and a donation to the charity of their choice. Best of all, the blood bank will have a good supply of blood for those who need it.
