The Grand Junction High School football team was scheduled for a road game this weekend in Longmont, but has decided to cancel due to a tragic incident on campus Wednesday (November 2) afternoon.

The death of a student from a self-inflicted gunshot has shaken many at the school, including members of the football team who felt they weren't ready and thought it inappropriate to leave their fellow students in a time of need.

The team posted this message on their Facebook page explaining how and why they made the decision.

The decision, while difficult, is the right one. Even though they won't be playing this weekend, we will put one in the win column for the coaches and players who put the feelings and needs of family, friends and the GJHS community first.
