You would be wise not to accept any phone calls from Sgt. Kent with the Mesa County Sheriff's Office. Why? There is no such person.

Sgt. Kent is part of the latest phone scam to hit the valley. People have reported receiving phone calls from someone claiming to be Sgt. Kent, a deputy with the MCSO. One has to wonder if his first name is Clark. Regardless, glasses or no glasses, the dude doesn't exist.

According to the Mesa County Sheriff's Office official Facebook page, people receiving calls from this scammer were informed they had missed jury duty. They were instructed to pay up or a warrant would be issued for their arrest. Personally, I've been summoned for jury duty many times, and I don't recall any clause saying you can simply pay a fine to get off the hook.

The Mesa County Sheriff's Office reminds you they will NEVER call you about missing jury duty or threaten you if you don't pay money. Typically, scammers will instruct you to purchase a prepaid credit card or money order as a way to pay your fictitious fine.

If you've ever had to pay a fee or fine, you are very much aware these must be paid in person at the Sheriff's Office.

Okay, so what do you do if you receive a call from Sgt. Clark "Superman" Kent? Simple... hang up. You can call the Sheriff's Office at (970) 244-3500 if you have any questions.
