Is it just me, or does this Grand Junction hotel look amazingly similar to an iconic transport from one of the most successful movies of all time?

A few months ago while visiting the restaurant at this hotel, something struck me as being very familiar. At the time I couldn't quite put my finger on it. The other day, though, it became abundantly clear.

I Think They Did It On Purpose

Is it just a coincidence, or did the architects deliberately construct the Hotel Maverick at Colorado Mesa University to resemble the Jawa's Sandcrawler from the 1977 Star Wars movie?

Here's the Hotel Maverick as it stands today.

What's a Jawa, and Have You Seen One Lately?

Jawas were those little dudes running around in brown bathrobes. Early in the original Star Wars they were spotted roughing up C3PO and R2D2. Later in the movie they had to face the music in a big way, and perished at the hands of Storm Troopers.

What's a Sandcrawler?

The Sandcrawler was that enormous, cumbersome tank-like thing the used to cruise around the deserts of Tatooine.

Wookieepedia descibes a Sandcrawler as:

Sandcrawlers, originally called digger crawlers, were huge mobile fortresses used by the Jawas as their transport and shelter in the deserts of Tatooine and Arvala-7.

Striking Similarities

According to HotelMaverick.com, the hotel features 60 guest rooms. Wookieepedia states the Sandcrawler carries a crew compliment of 60 Jawas. Seriously, that is what it says.

Probably Just a Coincidence

It's probably safe to say the designers did not set out to mimic the Star Wars design. Still, I think the hotel bares a bit of a resemblance.
