Colorado Governor Jared Polis on Wednesday called on all Coloradans to stay home and issued a statewide stay-at-home-order.

Saying it is now "the law of Colorado," the governor asked everyone in the state to stay at home for the next two weeks unless it is absolutely necessary, with a target date of April 11.

"Stay home to save lives' was the recurring theme of Governor Polis' address. Quoting from the book of Ecclesiastes the governor said to everything there is a season, a time to live and a time to die, but he said "this is not the time to die."  The governor repeatedly asked the people of Colorado to please stay home as much as possible for the next two weeks so that we can get back to normal sooner rather than later.

Beginning at 6am on Thursday, residents of Colorado will be required to stay at home with the following exceptions until April 11.

  • Getting groceries, take out food, essential household items
  • Getting medications and/or medical supplies
  • Getting medical care
  • Exercise (incorporating social distancing)

People who are allowed to go to work include those providing essential products and services such as grocery workers, healthcare workers, and some government employees.

The governor hopes the stay--at-home-order will help buy some time while testing efforts are ramped up and more testing becomes available. He said individuals who have symptoms but are not having difficulty breathing should stay home and self-isolate.
