What if I told you that Blockbuster was back and it's free? That really is true, but it's not in the way that you think. It's not the old brick and mortar video stores, but blue boxes that are now popping up all over the country including Wyoming and Colorado.

I first saw this pop up on Reddit. It's a "Free blockbuster box". This is a real thing and there's a website that tells the story of Free Blockbuster. As you can see on their map, there are Wyoming and Colorado locations already.

Here's their mission statement from their website:

A Free Blockbuster is a place where people can leave movies so other people can borrow them. Like those Little Free Libraries where you can take or leave a book, but for VHS tapes and DVDs (and anything else you want to share with your neighbors).

Here's the thing. You can make this happen in the immediate Cheyenne area. Free Blockbuster said that they are run by volunteers who make the boxes and maintain them.

How can you make a Free Blockbuster box happen here? You can start a franchise through their website. Once you're done, you can contact them and they'll add you to their map.

It's a unique idea that could very well have legs in a community where video stores are a nostalgic part of the past. Perhaps through the honor system of maintaining any boxes in our area, this can become a special community thing.
