Free Beer & Hot Wings: Staind’s Aaron Lewis Botches National Anthem at World Series Game [Video]
It's been a while since Staind singer Aaron Lewis has been in the news.
Now, he's got a noteworthy stain to add to his body of work: screwing up the National Anthem before the fifth game of the World Series.
It's a subtle error: He mixed up the lines "at the twilight's last gleaming" with "were so gallantly streaming."
He also takes as long as humanly possible to get the song out, but nobody seemed quite as bothered by that.
Lewis issued an apology Sunday night:
All I can say is I'm sorry and ask for the nation's forgiveness. My nerves got the best of me and I am completely torn up about what happened. America is the greatest country in the world. The Star-Spangled Banner means so much to so many, including myself. I hope everyone can understand the intensity of the situation and my true intent of this performance. I hope that the nation, Major League Baseball and the many fans of our national pastime can forgive me.
