Chipeta Golf Course isn't just for golf anymore. You can now play FootGolf is the new game in Grand Junction.

If you are like me, you didn't even know that such a sport existed.

FootGolf is played around the world and in the US there are 408 courses in 48 states. We can now add Chipeta to the list. The sport has been governed by the American FootGolf League since 2011.

The rules of FootGolf are very similar to golf, except that you used a regulation size soccer ball, and, as the name implies, rather than striking the ball with a club, you use your foot -- it's a combination of soccer and golf. Like golf, the object is to get the ball into the hole in as few as "strokes" as possible.

It appears that the FootGolf course follows the regular golf course outline but is generally played in the areas on either side of the fairways.

One obvious difference you will immediately notice is the size of the hole, which is 21 inches in diameter. I couldn't help but imagine how much lower my golf score might be if a golf hole was that large.

The cost to play FootGolf at Chipeta is $15 for adults and $10 for youth. It looks like this is a sport geared toward the younger generation, but could be played by anyone at any age who has a foot.
